Karachi heatwave claims 32 more lives, death toll hits 1,242

KARACHI, Pakistan: The death toll from a severe heatwave in Sindh has climbed to 1,242 after 32 more deaths were reported in Karachi on Saturday.

Even though the devastating heatwave that struck Sindh last weekend is slowly subsiding but still it continues to claim lives across the province especially in Karachi.

The Sindh government has already declared emergency in all hospitals across the province and also set up around 100 heatstroke relief centers in Karachi which are working round the clock to provide relief and immediate medical aid to the affected people.

The Pakistan army and Pakistan Rangers Sindh have also established centers in various parts of the city for the purpose.

Separately, 67 relief centers have been set up by the local bodies department in Karachi to provide relief and medical aid to the people affected by heatwave. Out of 67 relief centers, 16 have been established in Malir District, 10 in Korangi, 9 in South, 3 in East, 9 in Central, and 15 centers in West District.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast cloud cover over Karachi for Saturday with the temperature expected to remain between 33 and 36 degrees Celsius. But, according to it, the heatwave is expected to return in the city on Sunday with temperatures crossing 40 degrees Celsius again.
