ISLAMABAD: Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jilani on Friday tendered his resignation as the acting Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), two days after he was nominated for the next Chief Justice of Supreme Court of Pakistan.

The Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry had nominated Justice Jilani to act as the Chief Election Commissioner with immediate effect on August 17 and till the appointment of a new Chief Election Commissioner.

The appointment of Justice Jilani as Chief Justice Supreme Court had come under the principle of seniority.
