Justice (retd) Rana Bhagwandas to be appointed as CEC

ISLAMABAD: Justice (retired) Rana Bhagwandas will be appointed as the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) after the federal government and the opposition have agreed on his appointment for the said post.

The sources said that the federal minister for finance Ishaq Dar made a contact with the opposition leader in the National Assembly and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) senior leader Syed Khursheed Shah to take him on board regarding the appointment.

In addition, the sources said that some amendments are expected to be presented in the lower house of the parliament on Friday to remove legal hurdles to appoint Bhagwandas as the CEC.

It is pertinent to mention that Justice Nasirul Mulk has been serving as the acting CEC since November last year.
