JUI-F Sindh secretary general killed in Sukkur

KARACHI, Pakistan: The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Sindh Secretary General Dr Khalid Mahmood Soomro was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Sindh’s Sukkur district on Saturday, while IG Sindh Ghulam Haider Jamali has formed a four-member committee to probe the incident.

The incident took place when the JUI-F Sindh secretary general was leaving a mosque attached to a madrassah in Sukkur after offering Fajr prayers.

His body was shifted from Sukkur to his ancestral city Larkana.

Meanwhile, the JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that the murder of his party’s secretary general was an act of terrorism.

“The government should order and ensure a thorough investigation into the attack and punish those responsible,” he said.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif strongly condemned the killing and in a condolence message to the bereaved family, he expressed grief and sorrow and prayed for the departed soul.

The Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah also condemned the attack and described it conspiracy to disturb peace in the province.

The chief minister directed the police officials to bring the culprits behind this heinous crime to the justice.

The IG Sindh Ghulam Haider Jamali taking notice of the incident has formed a four-member committee under DIG Sukkur to probe the incident and submit report within 24 hours.

The Pakistan Ulema Council announced a day of mourning on killing of JUI-F Sindh secretary general.

Protest erupts in Sukkur

On the other hand, protest erupted in Sukkur after assassination of the JUI-F Sindh Secretary General Dr Khalid Mahmood Soomro.

The sources said that the JUI-F workers staged a sit-in at Ghaghar Phatak, blocking national highway and other roads.
