MUZAFFARGARH: Former parliamentarian Jamshed Dasti on Wednesday announced that he would not contest the upcoming elections, a few days after he filed his nomination papers from NA 177 and 178 to run against former foreign minister Hina Rabbani Khar as an independent candidate, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported.

Dasti, who has been charged with holding of a bogus degree, appeared before a local court for the second day on Wednesday in a case pertaining to the authenticity of his degree.

The court heard his arguments and later adjourned the hearing till Thursday morning.

Talking to media persons, the former MNA vowed to prove authenticity of his academic record over which he had been disqualified by the Supreme Court. “I need time to file important documents,” he said and hoped that justice would be served.
