ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The first-ever local government elections in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) will be held on November 30, according to the schedule issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday.
In its press release, the ECP said that aspiring candidates can file their nominations papers from October 24 to 27 while scrutiny of nomination papers will be held from October 31 to November 4.
The ECP said that appeals against acceptance or rejection of nomination papers can be filed on November 5 and 6. It said that appeals will be disposed of from November 7 to 9 whereas candidates can withdraw their names on November 10.
The final list of contesting candidates with symbols allotted to them will be published on November 11.
The polling in the ICT will be held on November 30 while the results of the local government elections will be declared on December 3.
Earlier, the local government elections in Islamabad were scheduled on July 5 but were postponed because of the absence of relevant laws.
Later, the National Assembly and The Senate passed the “Islamabad Capital Territory Local Government Bill 2015” aimed at rationalizing and reorganizing the local government system in the federal capital.
On August 4, President Mamnoon Hussain also gave his assent to the bill.
The ECP on August 26 also announced the schedule for the first phase of local government elections in Punjab and Sindh which will take place on October 31, 2015.
