Government of PakistanIshaq Dar sees strong growth prospects in Asia

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar said Thursday that prospects for economic growth in Asia were very strong.

The investments in infrastructure development across the region will act as a catalyst, bringing it at par with the developed regions of the world in the long run, the minister said while participating as panelist in CNBC’s high level debate on Asia’s Economic Outlook.

The other panelists included Indian Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Indonesian Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro, President Nakao of ADB and Agnes Vargas, Regional Head, Commerzbank Germany.

The debate was telecast live to CNBC viewers around the world.

Responding to a question, the Minister highlighted actions taken by the government to revive economy within less than three years of assumption of office.

To a question on Britain’s referendum for a decision to exit from the European Union, the minister said that it is upto the people of Britain to decide on its future relationship with Europe.

He was of the view that Britain’s exit will not have any adverse impact on its economy since it has its own currency.
