TEHRAN, Iran: The Iranian Defence Minister Hossein Dehghan has said that efforts of Pakistan will benefit all the Muslims in the world as he called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif who reached Tehran on Tuesday as part of efforts to end Saudi-Iran tension

In his remarks during the meeting with Sharif in Tehran, the Iranian defence minister termed the Pakistani premier’s visit to Iran as very important.

The Iranian defence minister expressed the hope that Sharif meeting with the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani will be fruitful, and also appreciated the role Pakistan is playing for defusing tensions between Saudi Arabia and Iran.

“Pakistan is playing very important role during critical time, the minister said.

The prime minister said that unity of Muslim Ummah is need of the hour, adding that Pakistan wants peace and stability in the region.

Earlier, high officials of Iran at the airport warmly received Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his delegation which included Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif, National Security Advisor Nasser Khan Janjua and Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi.

Meanwhile, the COAS also met the Iranian defence minister and discussed matters of regional security.

The COAS reiterated that Pakistan takes Iran as very important neighbouring Muslim country and people of Pakistan have a great affinity with our Iranian brothers. He said that terrorism is a global threat which has the potential of destabilizing the region which needs a well-coordinated response.

The Iranian defence minister thanked General Raheel Sharif and people of Pakistan for their efforts towards stablizing regional security.

The Pakistani delegation led by Nawaz Sharif is currently on a two-day visit to Saudi Arabia and Iran in an attempt to defuse tensions between them as their bilateral diplomatic relations have been cut following the violent demonstrations over execution of prominent Shia Cleric.

On Monday, the delegation met the Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud in Riyadh and expressed deep concern over recent escalation of Saudi-Iran tension. The delegation called for resolution of differences through peaceful means in larger interest of Ummah, particularly during these challenging times.
