Involvement of army was made at request of PTI, PAT: Nisar

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The federal minister for interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said on Friday that the involvement of the Pakistan army was made at the request of the protesting parties including the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT).

In his address on the floor of the National Assembly on Friday, the interior minister said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif agreed to allow the army to act as mediator, and such a decision was in accordance with the law.

“Since 1970 till today, the army has played a role to calm crises. There have been instances of martial law which we all agree is unconstitutional. But other than that, they have played a role in calming tense political situations,” Nisar said.

The interior minister said that said that all political forces are on one side and two groups are on the other side and are trying to implement their agenda through mob politics.

Nisar said that the protesters were allowed by the government to record their protest in a democratic way but when they were informed about their limits they started to use unlawful ways to force their demands.

The interior minister said that agenda of the protesting parties is to do away with democracy through unconstitutional demands.

The minister said that Pakistan is passing through a critical phase as unconstitutional demands are being made for changing the system. He said that no other way than Constitution, law and democracy is acceptable.

In addition, he said that the Model Town incident has been used as a weapon against the government. He said that most of the demands of the PAT are unconstitutional.
