JAKARTA, Indonesia: The Indonesian people are casting their votes on Wednesday to elect the next president for a five-year term for the world’s third largest democracy.

The reports said that nearly 190 million eligible voters will choose between two candidates including governor of Jakarta Joko Widodo and ex-army general Prabowo Subianto in the country’s tightest and most divisive presidential election since the downfall of dictator Suharto.

The Indonesian incumbent president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has served two terms and is constitutionally barred from seeking a third term in office.

The preliminary results of the presidential election will be announced later in the day. However, the official result are expected on July 21-22.
