ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The legendary cricketer-turned politician Imran Khan has condemned the latest casualties caused by Indian firing at the border and also criticized the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his failure to move towards peace.

Earlier in the day, at least nine Pakistani civilians were killed and 46 others including 22 women injured in unprovoked Indian firing and shelling on the Sialkot Working Boundary.

In a statement on his official twitter account, the Chairman of Pakistan’s third largest political party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan said that it is condemnable that firing by the Indian border security forces along the Sialkot Working Boundary caused killing of nine Pakistanis.

Imran Khan also described the the Indian prime minister’s inability to resolve the issues with Pakistan and bring lasting peace in the region as “unfortunate”.

The firing by the Indian troops took place along the Working Boundary in Sialkot’s Charwah, Harpal, Chaprar and Sucheetgarh sectors.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Office summoned the Indian High Commissioner in Islamabad TCA Raghawan and lodged a strong protest with him over ceasefire violations along the Working Boundary by the Indian forces.

“Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry received the Indian envoy. He was conveyed Pakistan’s protest and concern over continued LOC/working boundary violations,” the Foreign Office said in a statement.

The latest ceasefire violations by the Indian troops occurred days after the scheduled national security advisors level talks between the two neighboring countries were cancelled after New Delhi opposed the planned meeting between Sartaj Aziz and Kashmiri separatist leaders.
