PakistanImran Khan defends call for Taliban office

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has said that government should open an office for Taliban and announce a ceasefire if it is serious in peace talks.

Speaking to media persons here on Saturday, he defended his call for Taliban’s office, arguing talks are not held in caves. “We should at least have a place, where official talks could be held. Pakistan should present it stance. Media could ask questions. All should know about the dialogue.”

“We are already fighting this war even if talks fail. But under the current circumstances, where dollar has touched Rs110, do we want more destruction?.”  But for the talks to succeed, we should hold them in a proper way, he stressed.

Spying agencies of other countries are also operating in Pakistan, he said, adding any group could sabotage the proposed talks by carrying out just one bomb blast.

“There are 30 groups of Taliban. We don’t know who is supporting whom. But steps should be taken to build trust so that negotiations with Taliban succeed,” he said.

To a question, he said he was not holding talks with Taliban, adding it was the responsibility of federal government.

He said that the government should announce a ceasefire after opening the office.
