PoliticsImran calls upon govt to remove NAB Chairman immediately

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan on Saturday urged the federal government to remove Qamar Zaman Chaudhry as Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) immediately.

Talking to media representatives in Islamabad, the PTI chairman said that a three-member of the apex court had declared in its verdict on the multi-billion-rupee National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) scam case that the current NAB Chairman was also involved in that corruption.

“The government should remove current NAB Chairman at once and end its drama of sending him on leave for delaying the law process,” Imran Khans said.

“The NAB Chairman should be beyond the doubts for fruitful accountability of the key culprits in country,” he added.

On November 22, the Supreme Court of Pakistan while issuing its verdict on the NICL scam case, ordered to register a case against NAB chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry for hindering the investigations of the case.

Chaudhry along with Federal Tax Ombudsman Abdul Rauf Chaudhry was facing contempt charges in the NICL case wherein it was alleged that they created hurdles in the smooth investigation of one of the biggest financial scams in Pakistan.

Following the Supreme Court’s verdict which declared Qamar Zaman Chaudhry guilty in the NICL case, the NAB chairman went on leave for an indefinite period.

Qamar Zaman Chaudhry was appointed as NAB chairman in October after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and opposition leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah reached consensus to pick him for the said post following five meetings.
