IHC reserves judgment on Mumtaz Qadri’s appeal against death sentence

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday reserved its verdict on an appeal filed by Mumtaz Qadri against his death sentence in former governor Punjab Salman Taseer murder case.

A two-member bench of the IHC comprising Justice Noorul Haq N Qureshi and Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui was hearing the case in Islamabad on Wednesday.

Mumtaz Qadri was awarded death penalty by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) for assassinating the former Punjab governor Salman Taseer on January 4, 2011 at Kohsar Market in Islamabad.

Qadri was Salman Taseer’s security guard and personnel of the Punjab Elite Force. However, the former government was killed by his own security guard after he gave a statement against Pakistan’s blasphemy law.
