IHC orders to beef up security of Iftikhar Chaudhry

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday directed for the provision of bullet proof vehicle to the former Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry by January 9.

In addition, the IHC also directed for beefing up security of the former chief justice.

The directives were issued by the IHC judge Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui while hearing a plea filed by former president Rawalpindi High Court Bar Association Sheikh Ahsanuddin for provision of security to the former chief justice.

During the course of proceedings, Joint Secretary of Cabinet Division Ziaul-Haq appeared before the court and apprised that a bullet proof vehicle was given to former chief justice but it was not functioning properly adding that there was no any other such vehicle which could be provided to him.

The joint secretary, however, said that cabinet division would write a letter to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat in this regard.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Sikander Hayat apprised the court that only four security personnel have been deployed for the security of former chief Justice.

Justice Siddiqui expressed displeasure over the non-provision of proper security to former chief justice and ordered the IGP to provide proper security to former chief justice and adjourned the matter till January 9.
