ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday directed the authorities to discharge all cases registered against detained persons under section 144.
The IHC Chief Justice Muhammad Anwar Khan Kasi issued orders on a petition filed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) counsel Niazullah Niazi on September 13.
The court ordered the release of over 650 people including DJ Butt, a sound engineer of the PTI, arrested for violating Section 144.
It also issued a notice to the government and sought reply on the petition.
During today’s hearing, Justice Kasi remarked after hearing the arguments of both sides that the court would not tolerate lawlessness in the country, adding that it would not let the authorities make arbitrary arrests.
