IAEA satisfied over steps taken by Pakistan for nukes safety

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Deputy Director General for Safeguards of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Tero Varioranta has appreciated Pakistan-IAEA cooperation, according to a report published on Radio Pakistan on Tuesday.

In a meeting with the Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry in Islamabad, the IAEA official also conveyed the agency’s satisfaction at implementation of safeguard measures by Pakistan.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed matters of bilateral interest encompassing Pakistan-IAEA cooperation, especially in the ‘safeguards’ domain.

The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) Chairman Dr Ansar Parvez was also present on the occasion.

“Pakistan attaches the highest priority to safety and security of its nuclear programme,” the foreign secretary said while talking to the IAEA official during the meeting.

The foreign secretary also shared an overview of safety and security of Pakistan’s nuclear programme with the visiting dignitary and highlighted country’s unblemished record of nuclear safety.
