KashmirHuman Rights Day – A reminder for world to realize Kashmiris’ plight

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The International Human Rights Day is being observed on Saturday, a reminder for the world to realize the plight of innocent Kashmiris and women in particular who have been subjected to Indian atrocities for over seven decades and being denied their basic human rights.

The Day is observed annually on December 10 to mark the adoption of the United Nation’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights in December 1948.

However, the International Community has miserably failed to fulfil its commitment to defend and realize human rights for all peoples worldwide equally.

In its statement on the eve of International Human Rights Day, the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) regretted the unequal and unjust treatment of the people in Palestine and Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) at the hands of the usurpers, and the world’s inability in dealing with that.

In the IIOJK, the Indian troops in their unabated acts of state terrorism have martyred 96,156 innocent Kashmiris including 7,275 in custody and fake encounters since January 1989 till date, according to a report released by the Kashmir Media Service.

The report said that these killings rendered 22,952 women widowed and 107,887 children orphaned.

It said that the troops molested or disgraced 11,256 women and damaged 110,495 residential houses and other structures.

It further maintained that Indian troops and police personnel subjected over 8,000 people to custodial disappearance during the period.

On August 5, 2019, India unilaterally annexed IIOJK and revoked the Article 370 of its Constitution to bifurcate the State into two Union Territories.

Since then, the Indian forces have intensified their human rights violations in Kashmir, and now systematic genocide, extrajudicial killings, denial of religious, social and political rights, arbitrary arrests and torture of innocent Kashmiris by brutal Indian troops is order of the day in IIOJK.

Beside imposing curfew and deployment of 350,000 additional force, all mainstream and pro-movement leadership along with active youth was arrested to avoid any reaction / agitation by the local masses.

In addition, the total media blackout / closure of internet, mobile and landline phones was instituted to keep the world blind about the Indian illegal actions in IIOJK.

Indian atrocities in IIOJK from August 5, 2019 to October 27, 2022:
Total Killings707
Custodial Killings / Fake Encounter141
Tortured / Critically Injured2,303
Arrested18,354
Arson (Houses, Shops etc)1,101
Women Widowed43
Children Orphaned108
Women Gang-Raped / Molested126

On the eve of International Human Rights Day, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) in Srinagar deplored that the oppressed people of IIOJK are not enjoying even a bit of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the UN General Assembly on this Day in 1948.

The APHC Spokesman said that oppressors like India, involved in heinous war crimes against people demanding their inalienable right to self-determination should face trial in International Court of Justice and International War Tribunal.
