New Delhi, India: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) of India is raiding and arresting employees six Human Rights non-government organisations (NGOs) including Delhi Minority Commission since last night, reports Eurasia News.
Large-scale arrests and raids have been reported from Srinagar and Delhi under the national security act as the Indian government is blaming six Human rights organizations linked with Pakistan.
It may be mention that these Human Rights organisation were active to investigate the Delhi Riots of February 2020 in which over 54 Muslims were brutality killed, several mosques were burnt down and properties of Muslims were set to fire.
Delhi Minority Commission came up with several reports to expose the involvement of BJP leadership in Delhi Riots and Zafar ul Islam Khan (Ex. Chairman of Delhi Minority Commission) who is author and journalist based in New Delhi was booked under sedition case. on 28 April 2020, Khan made a Facebook post arguing that Muslims in India were facing “hate campaigns, lynching and riots” by what he called were “Hindutva bigots”. In response, the Delhi Police charged Khan with sedition under Section 124A of the Indian Penal Code. Delhi police also pledged to investigate other Facebook posts by Khan.
Khan, as chairman of Delhi Minorities Commission, formed a fact-finding committee to report to Delhi Government on Delhi riots 2020. The committee was headed by senior Supreme Court advocate MR Shamshad. This 130-page report blamed BJP leader Kapil Mishra for instigating the riots and Delhi police failure to protect the muslims. He is currently editor and publisher of The Milli Gazette fortnightly focusing on issues concerning the Muslim community, which is a second largest majority in India. He is also the founder and chairman of Charity Alliance, an organisation involved in relief and welfare work in India
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is India’s counter-terrorism task force. The agency is empowered to deal with terror-related crimes across states without special permission from the states. The Agency came into existence with the enactment of the National Investigation Agency Act 2008 by the Parliament of India on 31 December 2008.
“Muslim journalists, human rights activists, and youth are main targets of large-scale arrests since last night,” commented a journalist from Srinagar while requesting anonymity as her life could be in danger.
