ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif presided over a high level meeting in Islamabad on Monday at which sharing of evidences regarding Afghans’ involvement in recent terrorist attack on the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Camp in Badaber with Kabul came under discussion.

Last Friday, a group of terrorists attacked the PAF Camp in Peshawar’s Badaber area which caused deaths to 29 people including Pakistan army captain Asfandyar Bukhari and 23 PAF personnel. All 13 attackers were also killed in in retaliatory firing by the security forces.

Later, the military said that the attackers of Badaber had come from Afghanistan and the attack was planned and coordinated from the neighboring country.

In an interview on Sunday, the Advisor on Foreign Affairs and National Security Sartaj Aziz said that initial investigation into Badaber attack has proved terrorists’ contacts within Afghanistan.

The advisor said that there is evidence that terrorists received phone calls from Afghanistan. He said further investigation is underway and it will be shared with Afghan authorities on completion.

Other issues which were discussed in the high level meeting today included security and overall law and order situation in the country, implementation of the 20-point national action plan against terrorism, and border management strategy.

The meeting was attended by Minister for Defence Khawaja Asif, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asim Saleem Bajwa, Director General Military Operations (DGMO) Major General Aamir Riaz and Director General Military Intelligence (DGMI) Major General Nadeem Zaki.

The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
