ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Riaz Hussain Pirzada Friday informed the National Assembly that the Higher Education Commission (HEC) was formulating a national level uniform policy for disabled persons to provide them maximum facilities at universities level.
Replying to the Calling Attention Notice moved by MNA, Asiya Naz Tanoli and others, the minister said the universities providing best facilities to the disabled persons would be rewarded under the policy.
He said HEC supported equal opportunities to the disabled students and was creating such an enabling environment in which all the individuals could get maximum educational facilities.
Various universities are giving 5-10 years age relaxation to the disabled students at graduate and post-graduated levels and reserved maximum admission seats for them.
The disabled students are also given preference for accommodation in hostels in the universities under HEC, the minister told.
Replying to a question raised by MNA Nighat Parveen Mir about facilities for disabled students at primary level, the minister said it was the duty of provinces to provide educational facilities to the disabled students after devolution process.
He said the provinces were also taking initiatives for providing facilities to the disabled students and also fixed their quota in public jobs.
The minister told that a proposal to give relaxation in merit to the disabled students was also under-consideration.
