Government demands TTP to halt terrorist activities

ISLAMABAD: The government has called up the outlawed Tehrik-i-Taliban (TTP) to immediately halt the terrorist activities as these were having negative impact on peace talks.

The demand came after a series of terrorist attacks in Peshawar and Karachi left a number of people dead and injured. Thought the TTP denied claiming responsibilities of these recent attacks, while pro-peace talks political parties described them as attempts to sabotage the ongoing peace dialogue process.

The government four-member committee to negotiate with the Taliban committee has written a letter to the TTP committee, stating that Taliban activities should immediately be halted as terrorist actions were having negative impact on peace talks, a private television news channel citing sources reported on Thursday.

It was further stated in the latter that such statements that perturb peace dialogue process should also not be issued.

Dialogues and terror activities could not go side by side: Nisar

Meanwhile, the federal minister for interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, who arrived in Karachi on Thursday to review progress in the ongoing targeted operation, said that dialogues and terror activities could not go side by side.

On the other hand, a part of the four-member Taliban negotiating team Professor Muhammad Ibrahim said there was no meeting scheduled between the two committees on Thursday and Friday.

Ibrahim said that the recommendations of the TTP political shura had been conveyed to the government and there were now awaiting a reply.
