BERLIN – German Parliament has voted to extend the country’s military mission in Afghanistan by 13 months. Parliament approved the extension on Thursday by a vote of 435 to 111. The German contingent is being slowly reduced as the country prepares to bring all combat troops home by the end of 2014. However German will not stay in trouble South and South East and prefer to stay in relevantly peaceful north.
With a contingent of 5,350 soldiers and policemen, Germany is one of the main contributors of troops to coalition operations in Afghanistan. Although German troops mainly operate in the comparatively quiet north of the country, the Bundeswehr has suffered a number of casualties during participation in the International Security Assistance Force mission in Afghanistan.
