ISLAMABAD: General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Chief of Army Staff, Pakistani Army and General Joseph F. Dunford, commander of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), met on Saturday as part of the continuing effort to strengthen cooperation and regional stability.
This was Dunford’s second visit to Pakistan as the commander of ISAF, according to a statement released by the US Embassy in Islamabad.
During the session today, the two leaders discussed a variety of issues related to strengthening cooperation and pressuring militants who threaten security along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
“Today’s meeting was part of an ongoing dialogue to address security challenges of mutual concern. Communication and cooperation between ISAF, Pakistan, and Afghanistan is critical for regional stability,” Dunford said.
Dunford also congratulated Gen. Kayani and the Pakistani security forces for their contributions to the successful completion of national elections May 11.
