Federal govt welcomes Imran Khan’s statement to call off sit-in

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The federal minister for information Pervaiz Rasheed has welcomed the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s statement to call off his sit-in if rigging charges in 2013 general elections are not proved.

In his address to the participants of the sit-in at D-Chowk on Thursday, the PTI chief demanded an investigation into allegations of rigging in the general elections held in May last year by the Supreme Court.

“We will call off the sit-in if the allegations are not proven. But if they are, we will not leave without the resignation of the prime minister,” Imran said.

In a statement, the information minister said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has already written a letter to the Supreme Court about formation of a judicial commission to probe the alleged rigging in 2013 elections.

The minister said that the government is ready to resume dialogue with the PTI at any time and venue to resolve the political stand-off.

The information minister said that the PTI’s demand regarding electoral reforms has already been accepted by the government and a committee in this regard is functioning.
