Federal govt striving to overcome energy crisis: Nawaz

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that Pakistan is facing acute shortage of energy and the government has made a commitment to the people to meet this shortage during its tenure in office.

Talking to top executives of three leading Chinese companies including Huaneng Group, ICBC Corporation and Zonergy Corporation in Islamabad on Monday, the prime minister said that a lot of emphasis is being laid on timely completion of ongoing energy projects.

The prime minister while welcomed the delegations to Pakistan, and said that the government will extend all possible facilitation to the Chinese companies.

Talking about the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif said that his visit will usher in a new era of development in Pakistan and open a new chapter in bilateral relations between the two countries.

Meanwhile, the Chinese President Xi Jinping accompanied by first lady Peng Liyuan, senior ministers, high-level functionaries of the Communist Party and senior government officials arrived in Islamabad on his maiden visit to Pakistan on Monday.

The Chinese president was received at the Noor Khan airbase in Rawalpindi by President Mamnoon Hussain, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Federal Ministers, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and three services chiefs.

A 21-gun salute and guard of honour was presented to welcome the Chinese president.

A number of important agreements and memorandums of understandings (MoUs) worth billions of dollars covering key development projects in the infrastructure, energy and communication sectors under the ambit of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor will be signed by Pakistan and China during Xi Jinping’s visit.
