ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Thursday said the government was determined to eliminate power load-shedding from the country and provide cheap electricity to domestic consumers.

Talking to Chairman Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) Lt. General (retd) Muzammil Hussain at PM House in Islamabad, the Prime Minister said generation of clean electricity and water storage would enable the country fulfil its water requirements.

The Prime Minister said the ongoing mega hydropower projects would not only add significant electricity to national grid but strengthen agriculture and industrial sectors besides creating employment opportunities.

He directed WAPDA to expedite building of water reservoirs, which would be helpful in mitigating flood hazards.

The Prime Minister asked the Chairman WAPDA to fast track the developmental work on ongoing projects.

The Chairman WAPDA briefed the Prime Minister about progress of various ongoing hydropower projects in the country and assured their completion within the set time frame.
