Federal govt approves Rs14.5 billion for next year population census

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The federal government on Wednesday approved budget of Rs14.5 billion for the conduct of population and housing census planned to be held in March next year.

In a meeting of the governing council of the Pakistan bureau of statistics (PBS) presided over by the Federal Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar in Islamabad on Wednesday, arrangements and modalities for the conduct of census were reviewed.

During the meeting, it was informed that preliminary results of population census will be available in June next year.

It was decided in the meeting that all the activities including district wise data and results may be completed up to December 2017.

The meeting was briefed about the methodology to be used in the census-2016 along with major questions to be asked in the census operation.

The meeting also approved the composition of national census apex committee.

Moreover, briefings on the conduct of agriculture, livestock and machinery census and on the re-basing of national accounts were also made during the meeting.
