ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Former Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar has announced to join the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), saying only Imran Khan-led political party is capable of pulling the country out of crisis.
In a press conference in Islamabad on Tuesday, Sarwar announced his decision to join the party and said that he is proud to be a member of the PTI.
However, Sarwar has reportedly excused from becoming the PTI President, a position which has been vacant since Javed Hashmi resigned from the post in October last year.
“Everyone abroad advised me to join the PTI, anyone who talks about ending corruption is labelled as PTI worker, the former governor said.
Sarwar said that at a time when nepotism and corruption are at peak, we are fortunate to have Imran Khan as our leader.
“In my 40 years of political experience I have seen that united parties win elections, divided parties lose,” he said, adding that the PTI has potential because of its unity.
Moreover, the former governor said that our struggle is not for climbing up to the post of the prime minister, rather its all about changing the fate of the people and bring prosperity.
Later, the PTI Chief Imran Khan congratulated Muhammad Sarwar on his inclusion in the PTI. He said that Sarwar was not an ordinary politician in the United Kingdom, he was the founder member of the new Labor Party.
Muhammad Sarwar resigned as the Punjab governor on January 20 after his differences emerged with the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) over certain issues.
On Sunday evening, the Sarwar held a meeting with the Imran Khan at his Bani Gala residence and discussed the political situation in the country.
During the meeting, Imran Khan formally invited the former governor to join the PTI.
