Talking to media at the Khurshid Labour Hall in Balochistan’s Capital Quetta on Friday, the former chief justice however neither disclosed the name of his political party nor he mentioned prominent figures as his associates in the party.

The 66-year-old Iftikhar Chaudhry was appointed as the 18th Chief Justice of Pakistan by the then President Pervez Musharraf on June 30, 2005. In 2007 Musharraf asked him to resign which he refused, therefore leading to his suspension on November 3, 2007. He was restored on March 22, 2009 and later he retired on December 11, 2013.

Iftikhar Chaudhry was one of those whom the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan accused of having played a key role in alleged rigging in 2003 general elections.

However in its report unveiled on Thursday, the Judicial Commission formed to investigate alleged rigging during the polls declared the 2013 elections organized, fair and according to the law.

The former CJ termed the Judicial Commission’s report as an important milestone in the country’s history and said that all those who alleged that rigging was done during the elections have been proven wrong and all conspiracies have now come to an end.

Moreover, Iftikhar Chaudhry also asked the federal government, political parties and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to introduce electoral reforms in order to avoid any rigging allegations in the future.
