ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission will set up Special Election Cell this week for prompt announcement of unofficial election results.

An ECP official told APP in Islamabad on Sunday that the Commission will set up a special election cell for announcing unofficial results immediately after receiving them from the returning officers.

He said the presiding officers will announce election results of their respective constituency in the presence of polling agents and also display it at a prominent place.

He said presiding officers will also dispatch one copy of results to returning offices‚ who will announce the results in the presence of candidates.

He said that returning officer will send the copy of results to special election cell and officials deputed in the cell will announce the results immediately after confirming from the respective returning officers.

To a question‚ he said any candidate can challenge the result of elections within 45 days. Some 14 election tribunals will decide the election disputes within four months.
