ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday proposed May 8, 9 to hold upcoming general elections, adding that the government must issue electoral schedule before March 21, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported.

In a statement, Director General ECP Syed Sher Afgan said that the commission should receive the nomination forms within six days after the issuance of schedule, whereas scrutiny would be completed in the next seven days following the submission.

Sher Afgan further said that the president would announce the date of elections after which final election schedule would be issued.

On the other hand, the ECP has given a three-day deadline to the federal government to approve new nomination papers.

While the Federal Law Ministry has filed objections to the ECP in written after the commission sent draft of the papers to law minister for approval.

The sources said that the law ministry has objected over ECP for seeking three-year travel record of the candidates, with details of agriculture income, paid tax, educational qualification, family members and foreign passports.

If the federal government fail to approve the new nomination papers till March 11, in that case old nomination papers will be given to the candidates to contest the upcoming general elections.
