ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has said that no reference is being filed against the Pakistan Tehreek-e Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan.

Talking to media representatives in Islamabad on Saturday, the Secretary ECP Babar Yaqoob said that he has not yet receive any instructions to file a reference against Imran Khan.

Earlier on Friday night, the PTI Chief in a statement on his twitter account said that he welcomes the reports that the election commission may file a reference against him.

Imran said that the reference will help him produce more evidence regarding Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the ECP’s collusion in alleged rigging took place in the 2013 general elections.

The ECP secretary further said that the election commission is reviewing development funds being released in Sindh and Punjab provinces.

Babar Yaqoob also pointed out that the decision not to extend the tenure of election tribunals was taken on the June 22.

Earlier in a statement, Imran Khan also condemned the ECP’s decision not to extend contracts of post-election tribunal judges especially Justice (retd) Kazim Malik and Justice (retd) Rana Zahid Mehmood Gondal, the two judges who recently gave verdicts in favour of the PTI in Lahore’s NA-122 and Lodhran’s NA-154 rigging cases.  

In reply to a question, he said that 40 days have been given for electioneering in Islamabad’s local bodies polls scheduled on November 30.
