ISLAMABAD: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Fakhruddin G Ibrahim said on Thursday that upcoming general elections will be held on time in any case, adding that there should be no ambiguity about the timing of the elections, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported.
Taking to media persons after a meeting with Finances Minister saleemm mandwiwala in Islamabad, the CEC said that Karachi situation will not be a hurdle in the conduct of general elections. He expressed hope that situation in Karachi will be improved before holding of general elections.
The CEC termed his meeting with the Finance Minister as positive by saying that the Minister assured him that the required funds to hold elections will be provided.
Earlier at a meeting with the Finance Minister, Fakhruddin G Ibrahim apprised the minister that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has not yet received required funds to hold upcoming general elections and that so far it has received only 2 billion rupees out of 6 billion.
