ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has started scrutiny of nomination papers filed for presidential elections.

Chief Election Commissioner Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim is scrutinizing the nomination papers as presiding officer. His decision regarding the acceptance or rejection of papers will be final.

Mamnoon Hussain of Pakistan Muslim League (N)‚ Mian Raza Rabbani of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and retired Justice Wajhiuddin of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) are amongst the twenty four candidates who have submitted nomination papers for the coveted slot.

Presence of proposer and seconder is mandatory during the scrutiny of papers. However‚ presidential candidates’ presence in person is not necessary.

Candidates can withdraw their nomination papers by 12 noon tomorrow while the final list of the candidates will be issued the same evening.

Polling to elect new head of state will be held from 10.00 am to 3.00 am on Tuesday in the Parliament House Islamabad and the four provincial assemblies
