ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday assured the Supreme Court that it is ready to hold local government elections in Punjab and Sindh on September 20.
A three-member bench of the apex court was hearing a case regarding local government elections in Islamabad on Friday.
During the course of hearing, the secretary ECP Ishtiaq Ahmad Khan assured the Supreme Court about conducting local government elections in Punjab and Sindh on September 20.
The apex court directed the ECP to submit written schedule of the local government elections on next Tuesday.
The court also issued an order regarding the schedule of local bodies elections in Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the cantonment boards, according to which polls will be held on May 30 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and on April 25 in the 43 cantonment boards.
The apex court further directed the election commission to submit the schedule of LB polls in Islamabad by March 10.
