DG ISI briefs PM Nawaz about security situation

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lieutenant General Rizwan Akhtar called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad on Monday and briefed him about the prevailing security situation.

During the meeting which was held at the Prime Minister House in the federal capital, the two sides held a discussion on issues pertaining to national security.

The ongoing military operation against the militants in the tribal areas as well as withdrawal of NATO troops from Afghanistan also came under discussion during the meeting.

It was the second between the DG ISI and the prime minister since the former took over as the next head of the Pakistan’s premier intelligence agency on November 7.

It also took place a couple of days before the Prime minister will visit Nepal to attend the 18th South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) summit being held in Kathmandu on November 26-27.

The prime minister will also hold meetings with leaders of other counties on the sidelines of the SAARC summit and discuss issues of bilateral and regional interest.

It is also a possibility that the prime minister will meet his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi as well on the sidelines of the summit; however, it is not confirmed yet.
