ISLAMABAD: Defence Secretary on Tuesday tendered his unconditional apology to the Supreme Court and expressed regret over his failure to hold local bodies elections in cantonment boards across the country.

The apex court had issued contempt notice to Defence Secretary Lt-Gen (retd) Asif Yaseen Malik on October 12 for not holding local bodies elections in cantonment areas on September 15. He was directed to file a written reply within ten days.

Malik submitting his reply to the notice through his counsel Iftikhar Gilani advocate on Tuesday regretted for not holding the local bodies elections in the cantonment board areas despite court orders and tendered his unconditional apology to the court.
