A Dead Man Walking—Hamid Mir
By Agha Iqrar Haroon
Dispatch from Islamabad: A suicidal bomber namely Hamid Mir is running after prime intelligence agency of Pakistan ISI to embrace it and detonate himself. Trust me I am not joking. Defence Ministry tricks with him to move for registration of a criminal case against owner of Jang Group of Publication Mir Shakeelur Rehman (MSR) and Amir Mir but minds behind this move miscalculated reaction of Hamid Mir—a man who was shot six times but he survived. He believes he is a dead man already— the only survival of such attacks in the history of Pakistani politics and power game. Political observers claim that although attack on Hamid Mir was a successful attempt of diverting the attention of people from dumping former COAS Gen Musharraf to PNS hospital Karachi but Federal government moved to Sindh High Court today and submitted its reply that it would not allow Musharraf to leave the country and put off his name from ECL because he is an accused of high treason. Reply of Federal government in Musharraf case is mingled with article of Hamid Mir published in daily Jang. Its title is simple “Am I a traitor?” In his article Hamid Mir says he is ready to be killed by those who killed Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti and Zulifiqar Ali Bhutto and those who tagged Mother of the Nation Fatima Jinnah, Habib Jalib, Ahmad Faraz and Faiz Ahmad as “traitors”. Of course he is citing to ISI for all such events mentioned above. Hamid Mir was a man of ISI in past is not a question or an issue to discuss this moment—-issue is that Hamid Mir has taken an unshakable position against ISI and he is not ready to move an inch behind of position he has taken even before he was attacked and wounded. Hamid Mir is an exemplary brave person and loves to take risk even at the cost of his life or lives of others. Hamid Mir will live or not— will he be attacked again or would be he be poisoned or he will leave this country are questions in the mind of those who know Hamid closely. As his school fellow, college fellow and colleague I believe Hamid Mir has created a worst situation for those who wish to silence him.
