DHAKA, Bangladesh: The banned terror outfit Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) has claimed to have killed another foreigner in Bangladesh in a week, raising series concerns regarding the security situation in the South Asian country.

It was the second such incident in a week in Bangladesh when a foreigner was killed by the ISIL.

The Bangladesh police officials said that unknown gunmen riding a motorcycle gunned down a Japanese national in northern Rangpur City on Saturday when he was travelling to Kaunia town.

“A Japanese man was shot dead in the remote town of Kaunia today. He was travelling to the town on a cycle rickshaw when his vehicle was stopped by three men riding on a motorcycle,” the Deputy Police Chief of Rangpur City Saifur Rahman told AFP.

The reports said that the Japanese national was associated with a farming project and after he was shot dead, his body was placed at the morgue of Rangpur Medical College.

Meanwhile, the ISIL also called as Daesh has claimed the responsibility for killing the Japanese citizen.

It was the second such incident in a week in Bangladesh when a foreigner was killed by the ISIL as on Monday night, an Italian aid worker was shot dead in the Capital Dhaka. Later, the Italian national’s murder was claimed by the militant group.

The US and the British governments following the occurrence of terror activities in Bangladesh advised their citizens in the South Asian nation to take safety measures while travelling, and cautioned their diplomats in Dhaka against unnecessary travelling.

In addition, the Australian Cricket Team also postponed its planned visit to Bangladesh after the security advisors warned the Australian officials against travelling to Dhaka due to security concerns.
