ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) on Monday directed to frame contempt of court charges against the Chief Security Advisor to the President, Rehman Malik, after seven days, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported.

A three-member bench of the apex court issued its directive during hearing of a contempt of court case pertaining to corruption investigation in Pakistan Steel Mills.

During the course of today’s proceedings, the apex court declared that the reply submitted by Malik was unsatisfactory and he had interfered in proceedings. The court ordered that contempt of court charges be framed against Malik after 7 days for allegedly influencing the investigation into Pakistan Steel Mills case.

Earlier, Malik appeared before the bench, contending that he had ordered constitution of an investigation team after the Parliament sought a report into the case. He said that objective of setting up the team was to assist the court other than influencing the probe.

Malik informed the court that he had submitted an unconditional apology and left himself at the mercy of the court.

In reply, the Chief Justice Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said that an apology was a confession and it was up to the court to accept it or not.

Rehman Malik requested that the case should not be adjourned till Tuesday as he had to travel to Uzbekistan. The Chief Justice asked Malik under what designation was he travelling to Uzbekistan.

Speaking to the media following proceedings, Malik said he had been stopped by the Supreme Court from traveling to Uzbekistan.
