COAS meets US national security advisor

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif, who is currently on a seven-day visit to the United States, held a meeting with the US National Security Advisor Susan Rice at White House on Thursday.

The two sides during the meeting held in-depth discussions on the ongoing Pakistan-US security issues and expressed satisfaction on the overall positive trajectory in the bilateral relationship, according to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The ISPR said that both sides reaffirmed their mutual desire and commitment to strengthen their relationship.

The COAS thanked the US national security advisor for understanding Pakistan’s perspective on regional security and counter-terrorism efforts.

The army chief also apprised ambassador Rice on the situation in the region including ceasefire violations and shelling by India along the Line of Control (LoC) and the Working Boundary.

Both sides also acknowledged the importance of reinforcing stability in Afghanistan. In this regard, ambassador Rice appreciated the high level exchanges between Pakistan and Afghanistan following the inauguration of the new Unity Government led by Dr Ashraf Ghani.

Both sides also recognized the continued need for close coordination and cooperation for ensuring peace and stability in Afghanistan.

The Pakistan’s ambassador to the US Jalil Abbas Jilani also accompanied the army chief in the meeting.
