In recent months, the continued ceasefire violations by the Indian troops and the Indian leadership provocative statements against Pakistan further deepened the tension between the two arch rivals.

However, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his Indian Counterpart Narendra Modi met in the Russian City of Ufa on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on July 10, with an aim to lower tensions along the LoC, and expressed readiness to discuss all outstanding issues to promote peace and development in the region.

But the Indian forces continued to carry out ceasefire violations and and July 15, an Indian spy drone was also shot down by Pakistani troops which intruded into Pakistan along the LoC near Bhimber town of Azad Kashmir.

On July 16, the Foreign Office summoned the Indian High Commissioner Dr. T. C. A. Raghavan in Islamabad and registered strong protest with him over unprovoked ceasefire violations by the Indian border forces along the working boundary and LoC.

The Foreign Office also lodged a protest with the Indian high commissioner over violation of Pakistani airspace by an Indian drone.

However in his weekly media briefing in Islamabad on July 16, the Foreign Office Spokesman Qazi Khalilullah said that despite the fact that Indian forces continue unprovoked firing on the Working Boundary and the LoC, Pakistan remains committed to talks with India to resolve all outstanding issues as decided during the meeting between the two prime ministers at Ufa.
