Moscow, Russia: The heads of Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) reviewed regional security issues related with Afghan civil war during an informal meeting held in Russia.

Unofficial sources believe that participants discussed Afghan civil war and its related regional threats to Central Asia and Eastern Europe. “Security issues were discussed at length and participants expressed satisfaction over enhancing their cooperation in the struggle against terrorism, cross-border crime and drug trafficking.

Sources maintain that results of “Dushanbe-Anti-Terror-2017” exercises were reviewed in the meeting. It may be mention that secret services of CIS countries staged large-scale exercises, “Dushanbe-Anti-Terror-2017 in Tajikistan during May 2017.

The meeting was attended by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov, President of the Republic of Moldova Igor Dodon, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

According to official statement issued by the Presidential Office of Russia, participants discussed topical issues on the regional and international agendas and approved efforts for promoting integration in Eurasia and strengthening the global reputation of the CIS.

Trade figures were discussed and participants appreciated unilateral trade among CIS members that recorded volume of trade as higher as $117 billion in first 10 months of year 2017.

It is pertinent to mention that Tajikistan will hold Presidency of Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) from January 1, 2018.

The Presidency of Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) will be transferred from Russia to Tajikistan on January 2018 for one year. An informal meeting of heads of Commonwealth of Independent States was held at the presidential residence of Vladimir Putin in Novo-Ogaryovo on December 26-27.
