ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Chinese President Xi Jinping will arrive in Islamabad for a two-day official visit to Pakistan on April 20, the Foreign Office said on Thursday.

“I can confirm that the Chinese president will be visiting Pakistan from April 20 to 21,” the Foreign Office Spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said during her weekly media briefing in Islamabad on Thursday.

The spokesperson said that Xi Jinping will accompany a high power delegation and a number of important agreements and memorandum of understandings (MoUs) will be signed between Pakistan and China during his visit.

The sources said that the Chinese president will launch energy and infrastructure projects worth $46 billion during his visit to Pakistan.

The two countries are also expected to sign submarine deal worth between $4 billion and $5 billion.

Earlier a few days ago, a spokesperson of the National Assembly secretariat said that President Xi is expected to address a joint session of the Parliament on the second day of his visit. He said that the session may be summoned by President Mamnoon Hussain as close as a day before the address. However, he added, no date has been mentioned by the federal government.

The Chinese president was scheduled to visit Pakistan in September last year but later the governments of Pakistan and China mutually agreed to postpone his visit in view of the political situation at that time in Pakistan.

On March 26, the Foreign Office spokesperson told during her weekly media briefing in Islamabad that the during the visit of the Chinese president, the two countries would review the whole gamut of bilateral relations as well as regional and international matters of common interests.

The spokesperson had said that the two countries would also sign some important agreements in order to further cement the friendly and strategic relations.

Later on April 4, the Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal told media representatives in Karachi that the Chinese President Xi Jinping during his visit to Pakistan will perform ground breaking of the Pakistan-China economic corridor project.
