Kathmandu: Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoTCA) Nepal has decided to celebrate the completion of sixty years of first ascent of Mt. Everest as Everest Diamond Jubilee Celebration on 29 May 2013.

To mark this august occasion, MoTCA has planned to gather world famous mountaineers and offer them civic reception. NMA has been shouldered upon the responsibility to invite mountaineers from all around the world and organize felicitation program. Detail programme is being formulated and will be sent later.

Sir Edmund Percival Hillary was a New Zealand mountaineer who along with Nepalese Sherpa mountaineer Tenzing Norgay became the first climbers confirmed as having reached the summit of Mount Everest. They were part of the ninth British expedition to Everest, led by John Hunt. Hillary was named by Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century. They reached summit on 29 May 1953.
