ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Central Development Working Party (CDWP) here on Wednesday approved Rs 1113.986 billion for 14 development projects including four projects of Rs 1104 billion recommended to Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) for approval.

The projects recommended to ENEC include Gwadar-Nawabshah LNG Terminal and Pipeline Project (GNP), Procurement of 75 (55 Nos 4000-4500 H.P & 20 Nos 2000 -2500 HP) Diesel Electric Locomotives, Up-gradation of Pakistan Railway’s (PR) existing Mainline -1 (ML-1) and establishment of a dry port near Havalian and Improvement & Widening of N-45 (130.22 Km), a statement of Planning Commission issued here said.

The projects approved and recommended to ECNEC related to Energy, Water Resource/Environment, Transport and Communication, Physical Planning and Housing, Information Technology, Mass Media and Governance.

While chairing the meeting, the minister issued directives for cost rationalization of different projects as well as revising their financial models for utilization of public money in a transparent way.

In the energy sector, CDWP approved rehabilitation of NTDC System in south area for improvement in system reliability to avoid the frequent tripping at the cost of Rs 1064 million and recommended Gwadar-Nawabshah LNG Terminal and Pipeline Project (GNP) to ECNEC at the cost of Rs 168 billion.

In water resource and environment sector, CDWP approved Sindh Resilience Project (SRP) at the cost of Rs 2495 million and Establishment of Glacier Monitoring Network at the cost of Rs 892.481 million.

In transport and communication sector, CDWP approved procurement of 75 (55 Nos 4000-4500 H.P & 20 Nos 2000 -2500 H.P) Diesel Electric Locomotives at the cost of Rs 45.796 billion, up-gradation of Pakistan Railways (PR) existing mainline – 1 (ML-1) and establishment of a dry port near Havalian at the cost of Rs 870.472 billion.

The CDWP also approved replacement of two generating sets of 1000 kv (one MW) Workshops Division Moghalpur at the cost of Rs 160 million.

The CDWP also approved and recommended to ECNEC improvement & widening of N-45 (130.22 Km) at the cost of Rs 19.643 billion and construction of Nahqi Tunnel, Mohmand Agency, FATA at the cost of Rs 2428.338 billion.

The CDWP also approved the construction of road from Zera to Dabori, Orakzai Agency (FATA) at the cost of Rs 1.947 billion.

In Information Technology, CDWP approved computerization of PM Secretariat (Phase 2) at the cost of Rs 123.945 million and approved replacement of 10 KW Medium Wave Transmitter D I Khan with 100 KW Medium Wave Transmitter under USAID programme & shifting of broadcasting house to new site at  the cost of Rs 314 million.

In governance, CDWP approved research / feasibilities studies and workshops project at the cost of 249.26 million and also approved Pakistan’s Productivity, Quality & Innovation Initiative at Rs 250 million.

The CDWP also cleared Position Paper of construction of accommodation for Bhittai Rangers at Karachi at the cost of Rs 2870 million.
