Islamabad, Pakistan: The Interior Minister of Pakistan Ahsan Iqbal has said that a case has been registered in an incident of road accident involving US defence air attaché Colonel Joseph Emanuel driving a non-diplomatic number plate Toyota Land Cruiser in Islamabad.

In a twitter message, Interior Minister of Pakistan Ahsan Iqbal said that a very tragic road accident incident involving US diplomat in which visibly traffic law was violated resulting in death of a Pakistani citizen. Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been asked to take up the matter with US Ambassador. Case has been registered.

 

 

Meanwhile, Spokesman of Foreign Office of Pakistan Dr. Faisal informed media that Foreign Ministry is closely following investigation into the road accident involving a US diplomat which led to the tragic death of a Pakistani citizen in Islamabad.

 

It may be mentioned that a US embassy car bearing non-diplomatic number plate hit a motorcycle here in Islamabad on Saturday, killing motorcycle rider on the spot and injuring one other. According to available information US defence air attaché Colonel Joseph Emanuel was driving white colour SUV Toyota Land Cruiser without diplomatic number plate and his car hit the motorcyclists near Daman-e-Koh area. Police said that traffic police immediately compounded driver and vehicle but driver (Colonel Joseph Emanuel) was released at police station owing to his diplomatic immunity. US Embassy confirmed the accident through a press statement.

It is pertinent to mention that American intelligence operative Raymond Davis killed two Pakistani citizens in Lahore in 2011 and he was charged with murder and released after a deal with families of victims through Diyat Law (Islamic law).
