National AssemblyBudget 2016-17: MQM demands 20% increase in salary of government employees

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) senior leader Dr Farooq Sattar while continuing his speech on budget 2016-17 proposals in the National Assembly on Tuesday said that salary of government employees should be increased by 20 percent.

In his speech on the floor of the House chaired by Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, he said that similarly, there should be considerable increase in retired employee’s pension and minimum wage should be fixed at Rs20,000 per month.

Farooq Sattar termed the budget as traditional one and said that there should be some revolutionary steps in the budget to address the problems being faced by poor.

The MQM leader also demanded withdrawal of taxes imposed on stationary and dairy products especially on milk.

The lawmaker pointed out that there is no progressive tax proposed in the budget for taking the country forward.

Moreover, he said that anti-terror National Action Plan’s (NAP) ownership should be transferred to the people.

Dr Farooq Sattar demanded more allocations of more funds for development of infrastructure in Karachi. He said that a separate package should be given for under-developed parts of the country.

On June 3, the Federal Minister for Finance Senator Ishaq Dar presented the Federal Budget for Fiscal Year 2016-17 with a total outlay of Rs4395 billion before the Lower House of the Parliament.
