ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal government has announced the launch of special schemes for agriculture, housing industry, aviation and backward areas in the budget 2015-16 to be announced on June 5.
In his address at the concluding session of the two-day international conference on Affordable Housing and Mortgage Finance in Islamabad on Friday, the Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said that the government intends to activate the housing industry to enhance country’s gross domestic product (GDP) growth.
The finance minister said that there is a shortage of nine million houses in the country. He said that the housing finance credit guarantee scheme will be launched to provide loans for houses.
Ishaq Dar said that the housing building finance corporation has also been revamped to facilitate the people. He said that recommendations of the conference will be incorporated in the forthcoming budget.
On the occasion, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif who was the chief guest at the conference said that the government wants to launch housing schemes at mass scale to provide housing facilities to the people.
“We have to fulfill the housing needs of forty million families,” he said.
The prime minister said that new cities should be constructed for provision of housing facilities to the people.
Nawaz asked the private sector to give their suggestions and coordinate with the government for launching of housing schemes. He said that the government is ready to contribute on its part in this regard.
